For many small businesses, the winter months can generally bring about a slower season for profits. Many consumers become shut-ins, either because of bad weather or from empty pockets suffered as a result of their holiday spending. Here are some marketing ideas to help you survive the slow months:
A great way to remind customers about your company this winter is to keep sending out newsletters and email updates. To some, out of sight is out of mind. However, by keeping your newsletters going out at least once a month, consumers will be sure not to forget about you. You can also offer special deals and prices exclusively in these newsletters to entice customers to come out of hibernation.
You should also continually update your social media pages. Keep your customers engaged by posting polls, or contests that might attract new fans. Perhaps, you could offer a freebie to the first five commenters on a Facebook post, or make an exclusive offer to all of your Twitter followers who re-tweet a photo. Your customers will jump at the chance to get something for nothing, and in return you will gain their loyalty to your brand. You might also gain some new exposure from all of the “likes”, “shares,” and “retweets.”
You can also use your seasonal downtime to make improvements to your company’s overall business plan. Does your website need improvement? Do you have more time now to attend trade-shows, or join new networks on social media? Are you considering launching a direct mail campaign just before the busy season? Take advantage of the slow weeks to enhance your productivity in other areas!
